notary services in north carolina

At Hispanic Legacy Network, we offer reliable, professional, and accessible notary services for the community in North Carolina. Our mission is to support your legal and personal paperwork with transparency, accuracy, and cultural respect.

WHAT DOES A NOTARY DO IN NORTH CAROLINA?

A notary public in North Carolina is an official authorized by the state to verify the identity of individuals signing legal documents and to certify that the signature is voluntary and authentic. Their primary role is to protect the public against fraud and ensure the validity of legal documents.

What a notary CAN do:

  • Verify the identity of signers using official documents (such as driver’s licenses or passports).

  • Witness signatures on legal documents, contracts, forms, and declarations.

  • Administer oaths or affirmations under penalty of perjury.

  • Certify copies of documents in certain cases permitted by law.

  • Complete the notary journal (logbook) with each service performed.

What a notary CANNOT do:

  • Provide legal advice unless they are a licensed attorney.

  • Fill out legal or immigration forms on behalf of the client.

  • Notarize their own signature or any document in which they have a personal interest.

  • Notarize for someone who is not physically present.

  • Perform notarial acts without verifying the signer’s identification.

WHAT CAN WE NOTARIZE?

Power of Attorney

Legal documents that authorize another person to act on your behalf in financial, legal, or medical matters. They require accuracy and clear verification.

Example: allowing someone to manage your bank account or make medical decisions.

Travel Permits for Minors

Signed authorizations from parents or legal guardians allowing a minor to travel alone or with another adult. Required by airlines or customs in many cases.

Example: a permission letter signed by bo padres para un viaje  domestico o internacional.

School, Medical, or Employment Documents

Certificates, letters, or forms that require signature validation, especially when submitted to official or international institutions.

Example: medical authorization letters, school forms, or employment documents.

Sworn Statements and Affidavits

Documents signed under oath in which the signer affirms that the information is true, commonly used in legal, immigration, or school-related processes.

Example: a sworn letter for school procedures or custody cases.

WHAT CAN WE NOTARIZE?

Contracts And Legal Agreements

Agreements between two or more parties that establish obligations. Notarization helps confirm their validity and protects the parties involved.

Immigration Forms (without legal advice)

Although we do not provide legal advice, we can notarize forms that require an authenticated signature, such as affidavits of support or other USCIS requirements.

Example: Form I-130 or I-864 signed in front of a notary.

Health Documents (without legal advice)

Documents related to medical decisions or end-of-life care that may require notarized signatures to be valid.

Example: living wills, healthcare power of attorney, or medical consent forms.

North Carolina DMV Forms

Many procedures from the Department of Motor Vehicles require notarization.
